THE LEGACY OF SODOM

Ezekiel 16:48-50

48. As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.
49.  Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
50.  And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.

The focus of Ezekiel 16:48-50 is on the guilty hearts of the people of Sodom.  Sodom “and her daughters” (the residents) was characterized by haughtiness, a haughty, self-sufficient attitude.   This attitude is disgusting to God, because it refuses to acknowledge Him; His Word or His gifts.

Apart from their haughtiness, they also lived in complacency, calmness and abundance.  In other words, it was a flourishing economy with loads of free time.  Despite the prosperity, the people did not want to help people in need.  They had no time for the weak and poor.  They were haughty; and that is why they did “horrible things” in the eyes of the Lord.  In God’s eyes, their way of living was horrendous. The people of this area filled God with grief and anger.  Although judgement was needed, God was still willing to show mercy, as we can see in His answer to Abraham in Genesis 18.

Do you recognize any of the characteristics in Ezek 16:48-50 in your own life?  Be still, and speak to the Lord.  Ask Him to show any sin in your life.  Repent these sins, and let it go, and come back in communion with God.  If you have never given yourself (your life and your sin) to Jesus Christ, then the time is now.  The Lord was willing to show mercy to Lot; his wife and family.  He is ready to do the same for you!

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

God Bless!!
