1. When the day of Pentecost came, all the believers were gathered together in one place.
2. Suddenly there was a noise from the sky which sounded like a strong wind blowing, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3. Then they saw what looked like tongues of fire which spread out and touched each person there.
4. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to talk in other languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.
1. És mikor a pünkösd napja eljött, mindnyájan egyakarattal együtt valának.
Barnes says the following:
Acts 2 relates the fulfilment of this promise, in answer to the spirit of dependence manifested in their united prayers.
The Spirit comes from above, in His own power, to possess and fill the dwelling-place prepared for Him.
This event, important beyond all others with respect to man's condition here below, has here a very simple character, because there is no question of the causes of this marvellous gift, of the work on which it depends, of the glory with which it is connected and which it reveals, and of which it is the earnest: we have here only the fact of its power. The disciples "were endued with power from on high."
The form of its appearance, however, is characteristic. On Jesus the Holy Ghost descended in the shape of a dove, because He was not to make His voice heard in the streets, nor break the bruised reed, nor quench the smoking flax. But here it was the power of God in testimony, the word; which was like consuming fire, judging all that came before it. Nevertheless it was in grace, and was to go beyond the narrow limits of Jewish ordinances to proclaim the wonderful works of God to every tongue and nation under the sun. It was that mighty wind from heaven, which manifested itself to the disciples, and came upon them in the form of tongues of fire, each one divided into several. This marvel attracts the multitude; and the reality of this divine work is proved by the fact that persons from numerous countries hear these poor Galileans proclaim to them the wonderful works of God, each one in the language of the country whence he came up to Jerusalem.
The Jews, who did not understand these languages, mock; and Peter declares to them in their own tongue, and according to their own prophecies, the true character of that which had taken place. He takes his stand upon the resurrection of Christ, foretold by the prophet-king, and upon His exaltation by the right hand of God. This Jesus, whom they had crucified, had there received the promise of the Father, and shed forth that which produced the effects that they heard and saw. They were therefore to know assuredly, that God had made that same Jesus whom they had rejected both Lord and Christ.
A few years ago, I would not have known what it meant if someone was Baptised with The Holy Spirit. I wouldn’t have believed that this phenomenon actually happens with true and faithful servants of God. Today, I can say, the scales have fallen from my eyes. I’ve seen the magnificent power of The Holy Spirit. I experienced the incredible fire which brings with it an emotional cleansing of the heart and soul ... never to be the same again.
Yesterday we celebrated the Day of Pentecost, 50 days after Jesus’ resurrection. From the onset, a Sweet Presence filled our Church. A feeling of great expectation came over me; I knew something beyond my understanding was going to take place.
I received the Baptism of The Holy Spirit alongside a number of other believers. Every event and prophecy of the past 18 months suddenly made sense. It was as if though all the puzzle pieces finally reflected the picture, my path, where I’m heading and what God has in store for me. Many questions have been answered, and many more arose from the answers. The best was yet to come....
A very special man received the fullness of the gifts and blessings bestowed on him by the Holy Spirit. He was burning with fire from within. Hands on his back could feel the heat of his skin. He broke down in tears and started speaking in tongues, something which has never happened before. God the Holy Spirit was speaking through him, to him. Our Pastor interpreted, and the whole congregation was overcome by emotion, not a dry eye in the house. Immediately afterwards he was completely renewed. He looked different, as if true Holiness shone from deep within. He was called long before he was conceived in his mother’s womb ... yesterday he answered the calling to the Highest Office! This man I proudly call my husband! Together we will serve our King!
